The Violet drama
I bought Ungu Violet VCD recently. I don't know, just felt like watching a soapy indon drama. Plus I love Dian Sastro. I had the opportunity to watch it in my own sweet time in the bedroom without interference from B. Yey. So I sunked in my pillows and set my mood for a good love story. Down through the movie, I find myself getting from one dissapointment to another. It turned out quite lame. A struggling phtographer who kept his secret of having cancer discovered a beautiful face. Kalin (Dian) who was working at the monorail ticket counter fell for this guy too. This guy (you can tell I can't remember what he's called) took her pics and sent it to his boss, who loved it, and from then on she became a famous model. And so she has admirers left and right, but this cute guy was sticking by her expecting her to like him back, becoz of all the things he did for her. But of coz Kalin's heart remains with the photpgrapher, who in turn rejected her, bcoz he didn't wanna hurt her if she knows he is sick. Ok blabla drama..the near end is good though. Kalin got into an accident. She lost both of her eyeballs (not kidding). And need donors with the right specs for her to be able to see again. The photogrphr boyrfriend started to accompany her at the hospital where she remained although his own health was getting worst. Until one day good news came their way. A donor was found. Since that news the bf doesnt come to visit anymore, that's where the suspense creeped in me. Oh no, don't tell me the bf donated his eyeballs coz he was dying and is actually dead? The eyeball transfer operation was successful. And Kalin was still guessing away who was the noble donor, while wondering where her bf is. So I was still kept in suspense, and was ready to feel sad, when she went to look for her bf at this rooftop which has a huge billboard of her face. And there sits her bf, and the end..The donor was actually this lil girl who stayed in the same hospital as Kalin, but who was seriously ill and was dying and actually did..
Oh..And one thing, the title Ungu Violet, has absolutely no relation to the movie..So it was just a gimmick..
Sigh..some movies..

Ramadhan
The month which I secretly drag has come again. The thought of not being able to munch or haf a cuppa anytime I want, esp in the cold office environment already made me weak. But I was reminded of the good things that come with it, when I read this sentence "Somebody is leaving (the devil). because Ramadhan is coming". What else would I ask but a world free of devils and ghosts right? Heh. The month started out alright. Maybe coz I had fasted a few days before that due to previous year's replacement, so practice makes me not so weak. Colleagues at work make fun of me, always checking to ensure I haven't fainted at my desk.
Now, through the second week of the holy month, getting up for sahur still has not come easy. My favorite time of the day is time to berbuka of course. Especially when I had tagged along mom and dad to the glorious bazar ramadhan. My fav one and which we frequent the most is the one in Taman Melawati. A few times I had caught a glimpse of some of the local artistes, and a few cute men :-P Other than that, the choice of food is good. But the many choices of drinks being sold are enough to make me drool. I discovered a very good watermelon juice from this stall, which I plan to re-visit time and time again this month for sure.
Puasa or no puasa, eating is still my main life agenda. Recently my office department decided to have a berbuka together at Victoria Station USJ. Despite of hating the traffic to that place (and clueless of how to get there!), I played along, and arrived safely. We had a good table inside one of the train 'cars'. Although I was missing my hubby and wishing he was with me, I ordered the steak and lobster on the menu called 'Surf & Turf' :-d This happened to be recommended and was ordered by many of us that night. And indeed, it is delicious..

The rest of the night was boring but surviveable. I drove home a lil lost, but found my way back to Fed Highway.

Boss' Boss
Mr Lucas Mentink is a dutch man. Although I don't know much about him but I know a few of the departments were very pleased when he was promoted to become our big boss. He has the reputation (and proven) to be a very pleasant boss who are 'one-of-the-guys'.
Recently we had the privilege to be invited to his home for his housewarming/birthday party. We (my team members) were very excited because this was an opportunity to hang out in a big bungalow (with a pool) in bangsar. Lucas just moved into this new place and was kind enough to invite us to his home. The first step into his sanctuary, I could not find the way in. But I scout around and found lotsa shoes at the bottom of this 2 step pathway, which in turn did bring me to the entrance door. The environment inside was shoned by dimmed lights and candles. An appearance of wooden doors and parquet floors filled my sight. I was immediately relaxed as Lucas came to greet me. A bunch of my team members were already snacking away. The other thing that relaxes me..food hehe.
As if I was the honored guest, as soon as I arrived, Lucas and wife Angelic ushered everyone to the buffet table and help ourselves to the yummy delicacies. My favorites were the lemon chicken, boxing chicken, fruit cocktails and these lil white choc candies from Holland.
Mingling was not my best criteria but the environment in the house made it easy because everyone almost know everyone else. I had the chance to chat with Angelic, a very motherly woman, she seems very gentle and kind. She spoke of how their children (3 of them one gal and 2 boys) had to cope living in Malaysia far from home and having to be separated from their family and friends back home. It was interesting to hear. Angelic seemed relieved that over the past year, her children has started to enjoy their lives here, learnt to accept the culture and even embrace it. I wouldn't think there should be much problem in that considering they are living in Bangsar/Hartamas, one of the most 'international' areas in town, where living necessities are made easy for expats.

Moving on, I checked out the swimming pool, which was not very impressive. Maybe Lucas has not completed the exterior decors for the pool surroundings were too bare.
Speaking of decors, I was amazed of how a caucasion developed the love, taste and passion for Asian authentic furnitures and Bali-style decorations. The house gives one the feeling of being in a spa resort.
In this wonderful home, we were also entertained by Lucas himself who besides taking care of business in Shell IT, can also play the guitar! He hummed and played a few evergreens, even dutch folk songs.
It was also Lucas' 53rd birthday. And so as any lame celebration, a cake was presented, we sang, candles blown, clap clap..Done. I guess the birthday was not the peak of the night I thought.

Stomped
I have heard of this bizarre broadway performance before, and had always been curious to find out what the 'noise' was about. This show called STOMP, came about in 1981 from a bunch of musical instrumentalists in UK who played a lot of street festivals. STOMP is a high energy, percussive symphony, coupled with dance, played entirely on non-traditional instruments such as garbage can lids, buckets, brooms and sticks.
I was very pleased to hear that they were coming to perform in KL's very own Opera House, the Istana Budaya. Tickets don't come cheap there, and the STOMP show was not an exception. You have to fork out at least RM100 to be able to experience the extravagance and luxury of the interior and the show itself. This would be my second time, as my previous broadway show in Istana Budaya, was way back when I watched CATS. So I was excited to get my hubby to experience it, as this would be something refreshing for us to do.
We arrived just in time before the lights were dimmed which was a relieve, considering we just came from a wedding in Keramat. Our seats were remarkably near, so I thought, the price was worth it. Then, the show started. It was rather lame and a bit dull at first, but gladly it peaked in the mid, and included a few arrangements which amused me. I especially liked the number which they did using a bunch of rubber pipes! It produced a jazzy ambience kinda sound which was very soothing and unique. The last encore of course, was everyone's favourite I believe. I liked the huge garbage cans which they wore as shoes, and stomped away while beating it..such fierce music. And the rock climbing ropes they use to hang themselves by the fence while hitting on the various 'junk's tied to the fence was very impressive. And the comedic elements brought into the show visually, also made it uplifting and fun. The characters not just have to have a rhythm in their heads, but also a unique personality.
Throughout the show, I was thinking, what they are doing, looks easy, and I might be able to do it too. Haha, really, I love beating stuff (don't get me wrong) but getting a beat comes easy to me. So I think. That is why one of my fav type of dance music is drum and bass. And my hubby plays drums too besides guitar if he goes jamming with his buddies. And this is why we had to watch this performance.
And glad we did. My hubby enjoyed it too, gave a standing ovation before anyone else, and whistling away (yeah, who is this beside me?)...
