Stomped
I have heard of this bizarre broadway performance before, and had always been curious to find out what the 'noise' was about. This show called STOMP, came about in 1981 from a bunch of musical instrumentalists in UK who played a lot of street festivals. STOMP is a high energy, percussive symphony, coupled with dance, played entirely on non-traditional instruments such as garbage can lids, buckets, brooms and sticks.
I was very pleased to hear that they were coming to perform in KL's very own Opera House, the Istana Budaya. Tickets don't come cheap there, and the STOMP show was not an exception. You have to fork out at least RM100 to be able to experience the extravagance and luxury of the interior and the show itself. This would be my second time, as my previous broadway show in Istana Budaya, was way back when I watched CATS. So I was excited to get my hubby to experience it, as this would be something refreshing for us to do.
We arrived just in time before the lights were dimmed which was a relieve, considering we just came from a wedding in Keramat. Our seats were remarkably near, so I thought, the price was worth it. Then, the show started. It was rather lame and a bit dull at first, but gladly it peaked in the mid, and included a few arrangements which amused me. I especially liked the number which they did using a bunch of rubber pipes! It produced a jazzy ambience kinda sound which was very soothing and unique. The last encore of course, was everyone's favourite I believe. I liked the huge garbage cans which they wore as shoes, and stomped away while beating it..such fierce music. And the rock climbing ropes they use to hang themselves by the fence while hitting on the various 'junk's tied to the fence was very impressive. And the comedic elements brought into the show visually, also made it uplifting and fun. The characters not just have to have a rhythm in their heads, but also a unique personality.
Throughout the show, I was thinking, what they are doing, looks easy, and I might be able to do it too. Haha, really, I love beating stuff (don't get me wrong) but getting a beat comes easy to me. So I think. That is why one of my fav type of dance music is drum and bass. And my hubby plays drums too besides guitar if he goes jamming with his buddies. And this is why we had to watch this performance.
And glad we did. My hubby enjoyed it too, gave a standing ovation before anyone else, and whistling away (yeah, who is this beside me?)...
