Lost in Hong Kong
Just joking on the title. That's just the many tshirts I find with that writing at the markets. I wasn't lost at all there, believe it or not.
Anyway, ironically, as my previous blog was about Oriental, here I am bloggin about yet another oriental story. Yes, I visited HongKong (HK) during the Wesak weekend. It was hypothetically a weekend trip as I was just there for 4 days. Being a city gal, I had to check out HK. Why? Apart from wanting to visit HK Disneyland
(I have an addiction for Disneylands), I have been quite curious of how a small but busy city feels like. I am very interested to see HK skyscrapers' view. I heard it's spectacular. And I heard right. Considering countless buildings sits on small and narrow land of the HK island, it is very fascinating. The excitement as usual started from the time we board KLIA express train. The flight was super smooth, the food was great (haha, yes I love airline food, *weirdo*), but the movies were the best. I can't believe a 3 hrs flight provides movies-on-demand! How cool. I watched the Geisha movie. Touched down HK. Took yet another express train straight to the island. Transferred to the local MTR subway system, headed to nearest station to our hotel in Wanchai (thanks to my hardwork of surfing the HK sites studying its map and locations). Then we hopped into a cab, but realized, our hotel was just 5mins drive away. And cab fare was a good HK$15..darn. Well, now we know, anywhere u wanna go in HK, it is most likely, within a walking distance. That's how small it is. Goodie. The first day, we decided to take it all in.

Wanna see what we're dealing with. So took the tram to The Peak. That's where I get my first breathtaking view of HK from the higher grounds. Cun, but it was a bit hazy. I am happy and impressed that the local subway system. the MTR is very efficient, and covers all areas u wanna go. Again with advice and hard surfing, the Octopus card (similar to our Touch N Go card here, but simpler to buy, to use, and later can refund) is SO USEFUL. We didnt do much the rest of that day, but was exhausted when we reached our hotel. Oh the sad part is food is not very international there. I know they say the chinese food is to die for, but ya know, they are non-halal too, which means off limits for me.. So I was a depressed in terms of food during the trip. I brought tuna in a can and Jacobs biscuits to munch in the room, and lotsa 3-in-1 coffee packets..ahh...thankGod! Apart from that, we visited McDonalds very frequently, and I think I started to look like fillet o fish after that 4 days trip. The next day, eez da most exciting day for mee. We woke up early, and hop on the train, transferred to the Disney line to where else, Disneyland! I love how they thought of making the MTR train to Disney, uniquely..err Disney. With Mickey shaped everything (windows, hand bars), not to forgetthe Disney monuments in the train. Nice..

Enter the 'Happiest place on earth' HK version. First ride was of course Magic Mountain. I always opt for the scariest ride 1st, just to get it over with, and since we haven't eaten yet. But Magic Mountain is not scary (heh, coverline..). That's why I love this park, I can ride all of em without the nerve wrecking, gut wrenching feelin in my stomach. And still come out with an adrenalin rush. Disneyland HK is good to Disney's standards, but I have to comment, Asians will always be Asians. Queue-jumping, inconsiderate pushing, and loud talking are seen everywhere in the oriental land. Oh but HK Disney lacks restaurants and food vendors..again I was deprived. I thot I could find more international fast food outlets in there, but we ended up gobbling up more fish burgers and fries from this ONLY one fast food restaurant. And there's no churros!! How can this be? Churros can be found in ALL theme parks (until now..). What's churros? Oh, it's just one of the most delish 'long' doughnut made from cinnamon u can ever tasted. Here's a link I found which can give u an idea http://www.churros.com/churros.htm By the way, EVERYTHING in HK is expensive. Yeah, I know the cost of living is high and they get high salary, but it's still no excuse! I couldn't afford to buy or eat much in HK..Even at the Ladies Market, bargains does not come to a generous price. Our Petaling Street in KL may still be cheaper. Sigh. We took most of the pics in Disneyland of coz. The Disney characters were not walking about as much as they should I thot, I managed to get our shots with a few Princesses. The fireworks that night was indeed as spectacular as mentioned in the brochure. We were glad that we stayed on till night. My comment is as much as HK Disney is fabolous in keeping the Disney standards and wonderful in keeping the staff as Asian as possible, it is small and less attractive compared to the Disneyland everywhere else in da world...Right after the fireworks ended, it was like peak hour rushing to the train to head home. The next day, supposingly is shopping day. But like I mentioned, didn't buy much, coz things are cheaper back home or elsewhere..Come evening we went to the Harbour, and checked out more views and the new Avenue of Stars.
A copy of Hollywood Walk of Fame, but this with HK superstars. Flight home was even better, I get to watch Rumour Has it (Jennifer Aniston..lovely), food was a delish rice with sweet n sour chicken, and we reached KL earlier than scheduled. Hah, maybe coz of the typhoon which was headed to HK, that the pilot decided to press on it! And that's pretty much it, on the highlights of my trip to HK. I am glad I visited it, but most likely will not return..
The Mandarin
Courteous. Extremely courteous service is the 1st thing that describes the Mandarin. The check in was smooth, the hi tech smartcard room key (and access to elevator)
is impressive, the room is immaculate. With KLCC our ritual roam destination on weekends, this time we just 'walked' there *grin* Caught MI3, which waas,..ok..typical action movie, good story line. Good in confusing me at 1st. No matter how much fun to walk around, I get more excited walking back to our room.

Each day, a new type of fruits are served on this cool 3 tiered tray on the coffee table. We have a postcard view of KLCC out our window. With a kingsize bed, and
4 pillows, I slept like a baby. The training? That was good, very interesting business mgt stuff..*sneer*. Did I mentioned the fresh flowers overload in the hotel? Even on the tables during the training, there're small bouquets of lily, rose and sunflower arrangement, whiiich of coz, I couldnt resist and pick them out to put in my room..The food? Breakfast is
extremely good, dimsum, wholewheat croissants with pumpkin seeds on it (nice), porridge, miso soup, beef and turkey bacon. Those are just my favs. Worth waking up at 630am for (I dragged hubby to have breakfast before he go to work, but I gobbled most, he just munched on a piece of bread and scrambled eggs). The lunch? Pretty alright, chinese selection, some malay, interesting desserts. Once there was this dessert that's mango pudding with teh tarik ice cream on top..weird, not so good btw. The morning and tea breaks food are quite exciting as well, they served battered fried calamari (weird but delicious), tiny blueberry cheescakes (sweet..), choc filled pastry (yum!!), vanilla muffins with small choc chips on top (delish! I tapau-ed one to the room, in one of the pics here), cold eggrolls (weird)..We ordered room service one evening, I had seafood lasagna, and hubby hainanese chicken rice; not badd. Anyhow, pic speaks louder than words..

Surrounded by the boys
I have had the priviledge to help folks babysit my nephews previous weekend. Although they are a handful, but they are very delightful little
