Indonerized

We were crazy enuff to brave the 80% Indonesian crowd which packed Stadium Merdeka for the erm..too embarassed to say Pesta Malam Indonesia. What were we thinkinngg? I dunno, coz of Ungu? Or or..Dewa maybe? YYuup! My latest fanatical obsession is on this Indonesian rock band called Ungu (malay for purple, hah..my fav color, perrfect name). And so with hubby dying to see Dewa, this other huge act fr the neighbor country who's been around for the past decade I think and have been producing awesome music with vocalist sounding like Queen. I was dying to see Dewa too. So 5 of us pushed, hurdled, sweated (?), screamed, jumped, rained out, cursed, head-banged, clapped and sang our lungs out to the most worthy concerts of all time. With 9 acts performing, it was a looooong afternoon/evening/night. Spose to start at 3pm, we were barely in the stadium compounds at that time, still pushing our way through the (not-so-pearly) gates. Let me sneak a boo-boo to Hotlink as the organiser. Not very organised. But I dunno if I blame 'em as this was a huge event which involved people who aren't necessarily civilised. But still..they should've measured the expectations and prepared for it. And our RELA squad. Quite a useless bunch. Especially failing to prevent the people from the upper zone to crash in the VIP zone. Anyhow, we got in, ran to the stage, but rolled around on the grass. It was nice to be out (under the hot 3pm sun,..yeah right), nah
seriously, the environment almost felt like Woodstock, or what's the other one..Lollapalooza. Food/drinks vendor are all around the field. A few stalls selling souvenirs. And space, wiiide open space infront of the stage. Press and live coverage video cameras. One that impresses me are the ones on the crane, where it moves the camera across the audience. So fast and so low, it can almost knock a six footer's head. As we hung out, munch on some cold soggy burgers and drank our icy cold sour plum and watermelon juice, we started to get restless. The first band 'Ada Band' started the show. (They always let the least famous one to go first, and climax with the biggest act). Hey the least famous band was good lah. The vocalist was powerful, and the performance was overall cool and like they've been doing this forever. After that band is done on stage, we had to wait for almost 30mins for the next one to be ready. That's quite tiring. But the next band is my UNGU!!!! Cun gila. I pulled my friend's arm to the front (err..yup forgotten bout hubby and the other two who're not so crazy bout the purple band). And we jumped to my fav songs. Ah..and Pasha is so cute..After that Coklat, Gigi, Padi, Ratu (borring), appearances by Audy (whatever), Rossa (wooo..) and Ari Lasso (argh!). And last but NOT LEAST was Dewa, which gave the most powerful performance of all. Closed my eyes, I thought I was listening to their CD, but it was LIVE! So clear and precise. Through the concert, being an outdoor stadium and KL's weather, the rain poured (with occassional thunders and lightnings) at about 6pm. It became dark, ground became swampy, but the atmosphere became more..I dunno..fun. Maybe coz of the amazing colors in the sky, they shot a few fireworks, and the air being cool and breezy. We continued to party in our raincoats and wet pants. Aside from the many baboons in the crowd, it was a night of fun with really great music. My hubby and I rode the train back all grinning, despite being covered in mud and smelling like dirt.
