Jalan jalan cari makan. Is what I lurve to do. The past few weeks been doing a bit of dat. I had my fix of yee mee.
Our family opened our home on Jan 7th 2007 and invited people over to makan. Yeah, open house la what else. What's the occassion? *grin* Does it need to have an occassion, when people invite you to makan free food? *laugh* Well, if you must ask, the occassion is Belated Raya Haji (Aidil Adha) / Celebrating 2007 / Niece + nephew's bd. There...satisfied? The food was gooooooooooooood. Yyup, received compliments and confirmations from a few peeps. Not that we cooked it..it was catered, thank you so much Zainal Catering, our resident caterer. It was held at about 3pm.
As I mentioned. I actually get to celebrate xmas in 2006. By flying to Kuching Sarawak. Where my hubby's family celebrates them as they are Iban Catholics. Yyup, only my hubby converted to Muslim, if ya must know. Nevertheless, it's a great way to celebrate another of Malaysian's many festivities. Being my 1st time to Kuching, it's also damn exciting. I've heard lotsa good stuff about it, and having visited KK, I know I will like Kuching just as much if not more. Touch down Kuching, I was impressed with the new Kuching Intn'l airport. All modern and clean. An almost sudden rush of warmness came about. We rented a good old Kelisa. And with hubby knowing his way around (of coz) we swirved into Kuching town to our room in Holiday Inn at Waterfront. Yeay, I see malls attached and opposite to the hotel. Ok feeling more at home already. That afternoon, we immediately hung out at waterfront strip, the ever famous hang out place for Kuching youngsters including hubby. Satisfied my curiousness of Sarawak delicacy at the cosy Khatulistiwa cafe with laksa Sarawak. Yummy, and different..Then we were to surprised Atai's family, as we told them we were arriving the next day. Woa..first time to his residence, nerve crept into me..Ahhh..then saw the warm faces of mak, and dd! Yeah, dd is as warm and a bit shy at first. But warmed up to me immediately..Wooh..phewh. Hung out, chatted; Well they chatted mostly, coz I didn't understand most of what they're talking bout, yyup, thick Iban dialect, me no comprende..sigh..But it was good in a way (shh..) as I got to be in my own 'world' while layan-ing what I can when I understand..Hehe. Adik Lucy, her hubby Joshua, and baby Jordan arrived. Yeay! Jordan's soooo cute. Adik as sweet as ever. From that moment, I was a permanent babysitter to Joshua (8mths). Yup, that kid grew fond of me immediately and stopped crying when I held him. Jordan's not even fond of Atai..haha..That evening, we dinner-ed with the family. Next day, Atai brought me shopping. Not a min wasted huh. At the souvenir strip by the waterfront. Ey, cun gila la the handicrafts. I shopped a lil. Walked, tired, makan, drank, then went back to the room to chill. That evening, tagged along Atai's family to do some Xmas grocery shopping. Kegs of alcohol were purchased..hah..yeah tht's mostly the grocery item. We stopped by at a restaurant, and I had the chance to try another Sarawak's fabolous delicacy which is Mee Kolok. Ya Allah..sedapnyer..It's a fusion of wantan mee and maggi goreng ok! Wish they have it in KL man..I had the fried one, Atai said mee kolok soup is delicious too..I don't doubt that. Went back to the house. Nenek (atai's grandma, mak's side) wasn't feeling well. So we brought her and atuk to the clinic..She had an empty stomach, and masuk angin, as she kept vomiting. Ooh..Nenek rested, as we continued hanging out and chatted while mak prepared some stuff to cook for xmas the next day. DD went to the church tht evening. We went back to the hotel to rest for the night. Next day, Merry Xmas! Shoot to atai's house. Then started my busiest day. Mostly as 'waitress' and dishwasher..Heh. dodn't mind, nothing else I was useful for. They had many visitors I tell ya. That we didn't get the chance to leave the house to visit relatives, which was alright coz most of them came by. Even neighbors! Wooh..happening..By eveing I almost passed out. But remained composed (ha..like real). Last round, that evening we finally got outta the house, went to Mike (atai's cousin)'s residence 20mins away. Which was nice, uncle and aunt were the warmest couple I met. Oh the xmas delicacies are everything duck (eg: rendang duck), jelly beans and tht fish strip snacks..Altho I was not fond of ducks, I ate a lot of tht fish strips. The last full day in Kuching, Atai brought me to Damai. I had to see the Cultural Village. And it was worth the 45mins drive. I learnt and saw the homes (man made) of the Sarawak tribes. The Kampung Budaya was built at the foot of Gunung Santubong. So wherever you snap photos, you can see Santubong as your backdrop..which is pure magnificent. The theatrette where the cultural show was held was cool and cosy. Phewh air conditioned. About 2 hrs there, sat and drank. Then we drove off. I insisted to check out Damai beach. Which is enclosed by the Damai Beach Resort. The beach is gorgeous, all rocky and blue. Not many people were swimming as it was mid afternoon. Wish I stayed there. Another resort to look out for next visit, is the Rainforest resort, just beside Damai Resort. Atai told me Rainforest offers chalets which are built on trees! So like, staying on tree houses! Way cool. Then we drove back to Kuching. That evening we had dinner at the most famous seafood place in middle of the town, called TopSpot. It is a a 6 story carpark building, but with the top floor converted into restaurants. And the seafood is to die forrrr!!! We ordered, sweet sour fish, butter prawns (omg, they put cheese in it too..sedap giler), kailan ikan masin, dried chili squid. And it cost us RM60 only..for two pax. Ey...duwanna go back la..After that we shoot to atai's home again. And hung out till late. It was our last night in Kuching. Next day our flight was at 1245pm. Reached Kuching airport, returned the car..love Kelisa la. And saw mak and dd right away. Yeay, they came to send us off. How sweet. Briefly we said our goodbyes. DD wore the Bonia shirt we bought him (like third time he's wearing it..). Mak pesan to come to Kuching in June for Gawai. We checked in and hung out inside. Boohoo and yeay. Boohoo, as I like Kuching, and will miss the family. Yeay, back to KL..err..and what else..not sure. Until next time, roger and out.
A dear friend, who's smart, sweet, cool, slightly tomboy-ish and extremely good in sports, turned into a gorgoeous princess the other day. We had the privilege to get invited to her solemnisation (akad nikah). The ceremony went smoothly and the surroundings were calm. Her residence situated at the corner contributed convenience to the guests. Soft gamelan music was played in the background, gentle breeze blowing our faces in that warm night as we sat and savour the moment. Visiting Nurul in her room, she sat quietly, focused on what lies ahead; becoming a wifey! I especially love Nurul's room. The bed, the bedspread, the crystal chandelier on the bed. Brown, gold, and white; very grandeur yet simple and non-flashy. The hubby, Shuhada I'm not very familiar, but seems like a cool chap. Welcome to the club, Nurul, may you live happily ever after..Check out the photos of the wedding at http://new.photos.yahoo.com/urbanbtch/album/576460762381765665
